History of the Musicals
Hmmm where to start. I guess at the begining would be apporpiate but let's hold off on that right at the moment. The musicals are a big part of the Sailor Moon Community as it kept the spirit of the beloved Manga/Anime series alive. With a total of 30 RECORDED and Released musicals (full musicals btw), spanning over 12 years, the musicals have had a wide rage of fans from young to old. Let's now start with a short "bio" of each actress to hold the role of Sailor Moon.
First Moon: Ooyama Anza
Stage time: 1993-1998
Age starting: 17
Age ending: 21
Musicals Performed (released unto video): Gaiden Dark Kingdom Fukkatsu Hen , Usagi, Ai no Senshi e no Michi, Yume Senshi Ai Eien Ni , Yume Senshi Ai Eien Ni...Saturn Fukkatsu Hen, Sailor Stars, Sailor Stars Kaiteiban, Eien Densetsu, Eien Densetsu Final First Stage
Little fact: Longest running Moon.
The original Moon of musicals, Anza started at a ripe age of 17 and ended her reign at 21. We literally got to see her grow into adulthood through these musicals. From lip synching in the first couple of musicals to singing live at the end, Anza is best known for her 'Knockin Down Hesitation' from Sailor Stars. People call this "Anza's Song" as she has, as some put it, the best voice for this type of song. Seeing Anza-tachi graduate in FFS Last Day Performance, made just about any who watch it, shed a tear. She was that well loved by the community. After she left and the new Moon took over, many were speculating that the musicals wouldn't last much longer. Oh were they wrong.
Second Moon: Hara Fumina
Stage time: 1998-1999
Age starting:
Age ending:
Musicals Performed (released unto video): Shin Densetsu Kourin, Kaguya Shima Densetsu, Kaguya Shima Densetsu Kaiteiban
Little fact: Shortest role as Moon.
Second in line was Fumina. Her first musical, and her debut, Shin Densetsu Kourin, wasn't received to kindly by the community. Many were comparing her to Anza, and that hurt her ratings. Many protray Fumina as a too serious actress to play the always genki Usagi. However, if there was one thing she did dead on, was play Neo-Queen Serenity to the T. SeraMyu fans claim that she WAS and always will be Neo-Queen Serenity-she was that convincing in that role. Fumina didn't last long though, her reign as Moon ended in 1999 with Kaguya Shima Densetsu Kaiteiban. Rumour has it that she ended the role to make room for studying. Whether this is true or not is unseen.
Third Moon: Kanbe Miyuki
Stage Time: 2000-2001
Age Starting: 15
Age Ending: 16(?)
Musicals Performed (released unto video): Super Senshi e no Michi
Last Dracul Jokyoku, Transylvania no Mori, Transylvania no Mori Kaiteiban, Last Dracul Saishuu Shou
Chou Wakusei Death Vulcan no Fuuin +Super Revue Musical Show
Little fact: Last Dracul was the musical to hit the 500 mark
Third Moon was Miyuki. Unlike Fumina, Miyuki had the Usagi charisma down. She looked, acted and sang like Usagi. To many fans, she was Usagi. Miyuki also had, unlike Anza and Fumina, a complete original Saga of musicals. Simply known as the Dracul Arc as the musicals focused on the famous vampire, Dracul(a) and his half human half vampire daughter, Vampir. During interviews, Miyuki asked that she fly in as Neo-Queen Serenity and it happened-during the Last Dracul...Death Vulcan musical. She said it made her very happy to do such a thing but in my opinion, she was no Queen. Fumina still held that role. :D Rumors also spread that Miyuki left the musicals because she was too bossy and wasn't easy to work with. However, this is just a rumour and no such thing has ever been confirmed. Sadly in June 2008, Miyuki passed away from heart failure. She will be greatly missed.
Fourth and Final (?) Moon: Kuroki Marina
Stage Time: 2001-2005
Age Starting: 12
Age Ending: 15 or 16
Musicals Performed (released unto video): Tanjou! Ankoku no Princess Black Lady, Tanjou! Ankoku no Princess Black Lady Kaiteiban, 10th Annv. Festival Ai no Sanctuary, Mugen Gakuen Mistress Labyrinth, Mugen Gakuen Mistress Labyrinth Kaiteiban, Starlights*Ryuusei Densetsu, Kakyuu-Ouhi Kourin, Shin Kaguya Shima Densetsu, Shin Kaguya Shima Densetsu Kaiteiban
Little fact: Youngest person to play Moon-starting and ending.
The fourth and final Moon was Marina. Starting the role at a tender age of 12, making her the youngest person to do so. She was cute, hyper and had the Usagi charisma like Miyuki. Unlike the other two Moons, Marina was considered to be Anza's rival in terms of fan favorite (in my opinion of reading others opinions). Only having two original story plots (R season and 10th Annv.), Marina's reign consisted of remakes, granted they were better, but still remakes. Marina's time as Moon ended in Jan. of 05 still making her the youngest Moon to graduate from the musicals.
As you can see, each actress brought something unique to the musicals. If the musicals resume, rest assure that whoever plays the next Moon, has rather large boots to fill.
